Taking On Long-Term Wellness Care Together

Wellness care at 441 Animal Hospital means a constant flow of communication between you and us. You know your pet best of all, so we rely on you to tell us about any changes in their behavior or physical health that you’ve noticed at home. Additionally, your pet’s health for the long term depends on regular veterinary visits. We highly recommend annual cat and dog exams, and as your pet ages, semi-annual exams may become the norm. Since pets age at a different rate than us, one year’s time is more like four or five years to a cat or dog! What Our Pet Wellness Plans Cover

During your pet’s annual or semi-annual checkup, we’ll assess their overall health and may talk to you about any ongoing treatments, too. At a wellness exam, you can expect:

  • Full physical exam that checks pets’ ears, eyes, and mouth
  • Fecal exam to check for internal parasites
  • Vaccinations, if needed
  • Blood work, if due for routine screenings
  • Pest preventatives; these are extremely important as fleas, ticks, and heartworms (transmitted by mosquitoes) can all be very damaging to your pet’s health
  • Time to answer any questions or concerns you have

Puppies and Kittens

If you’ve just welcomed a new pet into your family, congratulations! A new puppy or kitten can bring a whole lot of joy to your life. Yet, in order to help them grow up strong and healthy, they need a lot of TLC. We recommend you bring them to see us as soon as possible so we can:

  • Give them a full physical
  • Perform a fecal exam
  • Administer deworming treatments
  • Start them on a vaccination schedule

Puppies and kittens are at a vulnerable stage so they need some extra attention and care from both you and us.

Adult Pets

Pets are usually at their healthiest and most active stage as adults. Yet, even when they seem perfectly healthy, they still need to come see us! Underlying conditions and diseases can be present without any symptoms until they are much more advanced. Bring your pet in regularly for pet wellness care so we can catch problems early and help keep them healthy throughout their adult years.

Senior Pets

For your older pets, a variety of changes can occur. Senior pets often require an adjustment to their diet due to lessened activity levels and changes in their metabolism. Many of them also develop degenerative conditions such as arthritis, joint disease, as well as loss of hearing, sight, and mental acuity. To help pets age gracefully, we recommend semi-annual exams and geriatric blood screening. Disease can affect older cats and dogs more severely, so the sooner we catch any issues, the better chance your pet has at making a quick, full recovery.
